Modular House - fall 2010 (design project)
Modular components fit for highway transport were designed for a three-story, four bedroom, and two-and-a-half bath house. The components are hung from two masonry cores -- one for vertical transportation, and one for all mechanical and plumbing utilities. The roof trusses are used to allow the components to be hung without the addition of columns, and they are exposed to allow for roof access at each level.

The idea is to limit the site impact of the construction of the house by requiring minimal excavation and foundation work, while the major elements are prefabricated offsite. The timber-frame modules built offsite are installed with a crane.
