2x4 Wood Joint
fall 2011 (CNC design technology course)

The purpose was to construct a functional joint using a 3-axis Computer Numeric Control (CNC) milling machine out of a 2x4 wood stock. The design is an embellished miter joint with a mortise and tenon connection for the joining of two corner elements. It is cut in 4 operations: 1) a contour operation on the CNC mill for the female end joint, 2 and 3) contour, pocketing and drilling operations on the male end joint by the CNC mill, and 4) subtraction of mortise joint on the female end by a ban saw (done by hand).

The design was modeled in Mastercan with the anticipated use of a 1/4” flat end mill drill bit.
